Ink Society, Historical Society present Dreamhouse Voices: Unboxed

What stories live inside the Dreamhouse? What happens when we step outside it?

The Jefferson public library’s Ink Society invites the community to Dreamhouse Voices: Unboxed, a unique evening of original poetry and prose inspired by the Greene County Historical Society Museum’s summer Barbie exhibit.

The public reading will take place Saturday, July 18, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Greene County Historical Society Museum. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.

Featuring original works by local writers, Dreamhouse Voices: Unboxed blends warm nostalgia with humor, inviting audiences to revisit cherished memories while exploring the hopes, expectations, and imagination that have shaped generations. Through poetry, prose, and storytelling, the evening celebrates not only an iconic cultural figure, but also the personal stories we carry with us long after childhood.

The event is a collaboration between the Jefferson public library’s Ink Society and the Greene County Historical Society Museum, bringing literature and local history together in an evening that complements the museum’s special Barbie exhibit.

“Barbie has been part of American culture for generations,” said Wendy Taylor, Ink Society facilitator. “This program invites writers to respond to that shared history with creativity, humor, and honesty. Whether someone grew up playing with Barbies, knew someone who did, or simply remembers the era, we hope they’ll find something that resonates.”

The public is invited to enjoy an evening of live readings in a welcoming, informal setting surrounded by the museum’s exhibit.
